Manipur CM N Biren Singh Lauds Union Budget’s MSME Reforms and Tax Relief
Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has welcomed the Union Budget 2025-26, emphasizing that the proposed enhancement of investment and turnover limits for MSME classification will significantly benefit Manipur’s growing business sector.
He also hailed the tax exemption on annual incomes up to ₹12 lakh as a major step toward easing financial burdens on hardworking families.
Taking to social media, Singh highlighted Manipur’s strong participation in MSME business registrations among Northeast states. “The new classification criteria for MSMEs will be greatly beneficial to Manipur, which has been a major contributor to the MSME business registration among the North East states,” he posted.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in her budget speech that investment and turnover limits for MSME classification would be increased to “2.5 and 2 times, respectively,” allowing businesses to scale operations, upgrade technology, and access better capital resources. Singh thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sitharaman for these expansions, stating they would “further boost entrepreneurship, local businesses, trade, and commerce.”
He also praised the tax exemption for incomes up to ₹12 lakh, calling it “a testament to the government’s commitment to the aspirations and welfare of the middle class.”
The measure, part of a broader income tax reform bill set to be introduced next week, aims to alleviate financial burdens and foster economic inclusivity.
Additionally, Singh lauded the expansion of regional connectivity under the UDAN scheme, which has already transformed air travel in the Northeast. “Manipur and the rest of the North East region have witnessed a remarkable boost in air connectivity under the UDAN scheme, driving travel, tourism, trade, and commerce,” he said, adding that the budget’s provision for additional airports would further enhance affordability and accessibility for middle-class travelers.
With a focus on MSME growth, tax relief, and infrastructure expansion, the Union Budget 2025-26 has been met with optimism in Manipur, signaling new opportunities for economic development in the state.
