Manipur CM N Biren Singh Launches Skill and Livelihood Programme to Boost Economic Opportunities
Imphal, July 19, 2024 — In a major initiative to bolster economic prospects for the residents, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated the “Skill and Livelihood Programme” at the City Convention Centre. Organized by the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, the program aims to tackle economic challenges by offering training and financial support for income-generating activities.
During the event, CM Biren addressed the media on various issues, including the ongoing border fencing construction. He clarified that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directly manages the construction through the Border Roads Organization (BRO), while the state government provides necessary support. “Any issues related to the border fencing project will be handled by the MHA. Our role is limited to monitoring and assisting through the concerned district administration,” Biren stated. He mentioned receiving unconfirmed reports about the construction halt but assured that the matter would be addressed by the union ministry.
Regarding the law-and-order situation in Jiribam, CM Biren acknowledged that while minor incidents persist, the overall situation is improving, and peace efforts between communities are making progress. He expressed optimism that normalcy would soon be restored.
The Skill and Livelihood Programme is expected to significantly enhance economic opportunities for the people of Manipur, equipping them with the necessary skills and financial resources to generate sustainable income.
