Manipur CM Reaffirms Commitment to Development Amid Challenges

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh reiterated his government’s commitment to balanced development in both the hills and valley regions, despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing ethnic violence.

Speaking to reporters on February 3, Singh emphasized that his administration, in power since 2017, has been relentlessly working towards progress despite major disruptions.

Addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony for multi-storied government quarters at Langol in Imphal West, Singh acknowledged that nearly two and a half years were lost due to the pandemic, followed by the current turmoil that erupted on May 3, 2023, claiming over 250 lives and displacing thousands.

However, he assured that developmental efforts have not ceased, with projects continuing in both urban and rural areas. He further announced similar government housing projects at New Checkon in Imphal.

The Chief Minister urged citizens to care for the environment and maintain cleanliness, stressing the importance of unblocking drains to prevent waterlogging.

He also highlighted plans to rejuvenate the Lamphalpat wetlands, envisioning its transformation into a recreational spot. Contractors working on infrastructure projects were directed to ensure timely completion.

Later in the day, Singh inaugurated an Art and Culture building, an Open Gym, and laid foundation stones for a 33/11 KVA Sub Station and a swimming pool inside Manipur University at Canchipur in Imphal East.

He encouraged students to actively contribute to society and emphasized the need for meaningful discussions among faculty, researchers, and students to address the root causes of the ethnic conflict affecting the state.
