Manipur CM Recommends NRC Implementation to Centre
Northeast Desk, 6th March: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on Wednesday his intention to send a recommendation to the Centre for implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state. This decision follows a recent resolution passed by the assembly, urging the central government to implement the NRC in Manipur for the benefit of the state and the nation.
Singh emphasized that the state government cannot independently implement the NRC and highlighted the resolution passed in the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The resolution, supported by a diverse coalition, signifies a significant milestone in the state’s legislative history.
Taking to the microblogging platform X on March 2, Chief Minister Singh hailed the resolution as a historic event, showcasing the collective resolve of indigenous communities in Manipur to safeguard the state and the nation through the implementation of the NRC.
The Manipur Legislative Assembly’s 5th session of the 12th Assembly convened on March 1, reaffirming its commitment to expedite the implementation of the NRC in the state. This decision underscores the assembly’s unwavering dedication to preserving Manipur’s security and integrity.
