Manipur CM Urges people to use social media responsibly
Guwahati: The chief minister of Manipur N Biren Singh on Tuesday advised people to use social media responsibly in order to stop the propagation of misinformation and intolerance.
The CM said while visiting Telipati in the state’s Imphal district where the violence between the two communities began on December 5 night as a result of a land dispute surrounding the construction of the temple.
”Visited the site at Telipati, Imphal East where the unsettling incident happened yesterday. I strongly condemn the unlawful act and request that people to use social media very responsibly. Prompt action will be taken against those spreading enmity,” he said on his official social media handle.
At least four vehicles were vandalised and one was set ablaze during the conflict. As a result, police forces sprang into action to calm the situation.
The police resorted to use tear gas shells to disperse the rioters.
Meanwhile, Section 144 has been implemented in Telipati and one company of the CRPF has been deployed.
