Manipur Congress Chief Criticizes Union Budget, Calls It Biased and Politically Motivated

Imphal: Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra has strongly criticized the Union Budget 2025, stating that it neglects the urgent needs of people affected by violence in Manipur.

Speaking to reporters after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget on February 1, Meghachandra called it “not people-friendly” and accused the government of political bias. He expressed disappointment that despite the ongoing crisis in Manipur, no provisions were made to support those displaced by violence.

“Manipur and the Northeast region are facing serious challenges, particularly in the wake of the violence in the state. The budget has failed to address the needs of the affected people. More than 60,000 individuals are still living in relief camps, yet there is no mention of housing or rehabilitation for them,” he stated.

The Congress leader further alleged that the budget serves the interests of the wealthy while neglecting the poor. “This budget will only make the poor poorer and the rich richer,” he asserted.

Meghachandra’s remarks add to the opposition’s growing criticism of the budget, with many leaders questioning its inclusivity and long-term impact on marginalized communities.
