Manipur Congress Delegation Meets Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla Over State Crisis
Imphal: A delegation of Congress leaders from Manipur, led by former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and Inner Manipur MP Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, met with newly appointed Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhawan on January 8.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Okram Ibobi Singh stated that the delegation raised pressing concerns about the ongoing unrest in Manipur. They urged the governor to take immediate steps to restore peace and stability in the state.
Singh emphasized the Congress party’s commitment to fostering peace and highlighted the deep distress caused by the crisis. He pointed to incidents like the tragic suicide of a newly married woman at the Mekola Relief Camp in Imphal West as evidence of the dire humanitarian impact of the unrest.
The Congress leaders expressed gratitude to Governor Bhalla for his attention to their concerns, marking the first engagement with him since his appointment. Singh reiterated the party’s readiness to collaborate on efforts to end the turmoil and bring normalcy to Manipur.
The meeting underscores the urgency of addressing the ongoing crisis in the state, with hopes for decisive action to alleviate the hardships faced by its people.
