Manipur Congress Leader Debabrata Criticizes Government Amidst Rahul Gandhi’s Visit

Northeast Desk, 8th July: Debabrata, the Working President of Manipur Congress, has launched a scathing critique against the government’s handling of the aftermath of the recent conflict in Jiribam. His comments coincided with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s visit to a relief camp at Jiribam Higher Secondary School, where he interacted with internally displaced individuals affected by the year-long ethnic violence.

“Rahul Gandhi came here to meet those affected by the recent conflict in Jiribam,” Debabrata stated, highlighting discrepancies between the government’s claims of normalcy and the harsh realities conveyed by relief camp residents. Reports indicate widespread devastation and neglect persisting despite official reassurances.

During Gandhi’s visit, inmates of the relief camp reportedly voiced their grievances, underscoring inadequacies in relief efforts and ongoing challenges faced by displaced communities.

Earlier, just hours before the Leader of the Opposition’s scheduled visit, armed miscreants attacked security forces in the Faiton Area, prompting a firefight that left several security personnel injured. The incident underscores the volatile security situation exacerbating relief efforts in conflict-affected regions like Jiribam.

The visit by Rahul Gandhi and the criticism from Debabrata reflect growing concerns over the government’s response to the ongoing crisis in Manipur, as political tensions and humanitarian challenges continue to unfold amidst security threats.
