Manipur Congress Leader Denies Involvement in Audio Tape Leak Case

Imphal: Ningombam Bhupenda Meitei, senior spokesman of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, has strongly rejected claims of his involvement in the hearing of the alleged audio tape leak case at the Supreme Court.

He termed the incident as an attempt to put his life and property at risk by spreading false information.

Bhupenda clarified that he is not acting as a counsel for either the petitioner or the respondent in the particular case and has not signed the wakalatnama. He expressed suspicion that BJP and its allies might be behind the social media post spreading false information about his involvement.

Bhupenda expressed concern about the spread of fake news and rumours in Manipur, which has already witnessed several instances of death and loss of property due to such incidents.

He has submitted an urgent letter to the Governor, DGP, and Chief Secretary, seeking immediate action to curb the spread of false information and ensure his safety and security.

Bhupenda urged the authorities to take appropriate measures to stop fake news and rumours, which can potentially lead to mob violence in the state.

He emphasized the need to protect citizens and their properties under the Constitution and ensure an environment of peace and fearlessness in Manipur.
