Manipur Congress Leaders Demand Disciplinary Action Against P Chidambaram Over Social Media Post
Imphal: Senior Congress leaders in Manipur have strongly condemned a recent social media post by former Union Minister P Chidambaram, calling for immediate disciplinary action.
In an emergency meeting held at Babupara, Imphal, prominent members of the Congress Legislature Party, CWC, and former MPCC presidents united in their criticism of the post, labeling it “highly inappropriate” given the volatile situation in the state.
The Congress leaders submitted a letter to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, urging him to take swift action against Chidambaram and demanding the removal of the contentious post from platform X (formerly Twitter).
They expressed concerns that the language and sentiments in the post were detrimental to public harmony and could exacerbate the current unrest in Manipur.
“The Congress Party has always upheld the principles of unity and territorial integrity for the State of Manipur,” the letter emphasized, reiterating the party’s commitment to preserving peace and stability in the region.
The meeting, which commenced at 9:00 am, was attended by senior party members, including former ministers and key figures from the PCC. Their collective stance underscores the gravity of the issue and the urgent need for the party’s leadership to address it at the national level.
With tensions running high in Manipur amid the ongoing crisis, the Congress leadership in the state stressed the importance of responsible communication, especially from senior figures. They urged the central leadership to ensure that party representatives prioritize unity and sensitivity in their public statements.
