Manipur Congress President Alleges “Undeclared President’s Rule” under N Biren Singh Government

Northeast Desk, 2nd July: Keisham Meghachandra, president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), has accused the N Biren Singh government of operating under an undeclared “president’s rule,” labeling it the “weakest” administration in Manipur’s political history.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Meghachandra criticized the state government, referring to it as a “paper tiger” unable to effectively manage critical incidents like the recent ambush of the Chief Minister’s advanced security convoy. He asserted that the administration, including law and order and other departments, is paralyzed and ineffective.

“We are witnessing a system of undeclared president’s rule. This is 99.9 per cent correct,” Meghachandra stated, suggesting that while Article 355 has not been formally imposed by the Central government, the situation in Manipur reflects similar governance challenges.

Meghachandra expressed frustration over what he perceives as prolonged government inaction, stating, “Earlier we waited for two-three months for the government to address the situation. Now, after fourteen months, we are still waiting.”

He also acknowledged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for raising the issues concerning Manipur in Parliament on Monday, appreciating the party’s efforts to bring attention to the state’s governance issues on a national platform.
