Manipur Congress President Criticizes BJP Government for “Dividing People” and “Failing Youth Promises”

Imphal: Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra has accused the BJP-led government of failing to effectively administer the state, alleging that it has fostered division among communities and neglected to provide platforms for dialogue.

Meghachandra’s remarks came during a felicitation program for newly elected office bearers of the party’s youth wing.

Highlighting the ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities that erupted in May 2023, resulting in over 250 deaths and displacing thousands, Meghachandra lamented the ongoing “sufferings, pains, and agony” in the state.

He urged the youth leaders to commit themselves to addressing these challenges and fostering unity.

“Due to the authorities’ inability to govern Manipur, divisions have deepened among people, and no avenues for discussion have been created. We are now in a state where every action triggers a reaction,” he stated.

The Congress leader also criticized the BJP governments at both the Centre and state levels for failing to deliver on their employment promises.

Meghachandra referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2014 promise of creating two crore jobs annually and the Manipur state government’s 2017 pledge of providing 1.5 lakh jobs for the youth.

“Despite these lofty promises, securing jobs has become increasingly difficult for the youth. The BJP has failed to address the aspirations of the younger generation,” he alleged.

Meghachandra reaffirmed the Congress Party’s commitment to inclusivity, asserting that it represents all communities in Manipur and stands ready to rebuild trust and unity in the state.
