Manipur Congress Slams BJP, Congress Promises Legal Guarantee for MSP

Northeast Desk, 17th February: Manipur Congress, on February 17, launched a scathing attack on the BJP government, accusing it of failing to fulfill its promises since Prime Minister Modi assumed power.

AICC secretary Ranjit Mukherjee affirmed that Congress would provide a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) once INDIA forms the government at the center.

This commitment was made during an announcement in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, where Congress pledged to enact a legal guarantee for MSP for various crops, a longstanding demand of farmers nationwide. The promise was reiterated in the party’s resolution on Agriculture during its Raipur Session.

Congress assured farmers that ensuring MSP would be the first task undertaken by the Indian government after the 2024 General Elections.

The BJP government’s failure to implement MSP based on the recommendations of late MS Swaminathan, despite promises made before the 2014 elections, was highlighted. The recent affidavit filed by the government in the Supreme Court, claiming feasibility issues in providing MSP based on actual input cost plus 50 per cent, drew criticism.

Moreover, the government’s inaction despite promises made during farmers’ protests two years ago, along with the alleged suppression of protesting farmers by the police, garnered condemnation.

The BJP government was further criticized for its failure to fulfill various promises made during the 2014 General Elections, including job creation, black money retrieval, and doubling farmers’ income. Additionally, the introduction of the controversial Agnipath scheme, the tripling of India’s debt in the last decade, and the freezing of Congress party’s bank accounts by the Income Tax Department were highlighted as points of contention.

Congress reiterated its commitment to ensuring MSP once it assumes power, while also criticizing the Modi government’s handling of the ongoing unrest in Manipur and its control over the media narrative.

The Congress party asserted that the countdown to the end of ‘Anyaaykaal’ (injustice era) has begun, signaling its resolve to address grievances and bring about change.
