Guwahati, 3rd October: The Committee on Tribal Unity Sadar Hills has initiated a 15-hour total shutdown in Kangpokpi district of Manipur starting at 6:00 a.m. today (October 3) , to commemorate the fifth-month unrest in the state.

CoTU had previously announced its decision to enforce a complete shutdown as part of its observance of the state’s fifth-month unrest.

With the total shutdown in effect, numerous businesses in Kangpokpi District Headquarters, including the largest market, Nute Kailhang or Mother’s Market, have remained closed.

Vehicular movement on National Highway-2 has come to a standstill, except for emergency services exempted from the shutdown.

This total shutdown will continue to be in place until 9:00 p.m. today.

CoTU’s primary observation of the fifth-month unrest in Manipur is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Brig. M. Thomas ground in the district headquarters.

The key highlights of the event include an altar dedicated to the Kuki-Zo community, the unveiling of the Coffin, a display of the Coffin Rally, a Candlelight Vigil, and paying tribute to the Kuki-Zo Martyrs in the midst of the ongoing alleged ethnic strife.

Additionally, CoTU has imposed another total shutdown along National Highway-37 since 4:00 p.m. on October 2, in connection with the alleged abduction of a Kuki-Zo individual by armed Meitei miscreants on September 30 in the New Keithelmanbi area, while urging for the safe release of the abducted individual.
