Manipur Crackdown: Militants and Criminals Nabbed in Twin Operations
Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have delivered a significant blow to various militant outfits and criminal gangs, apprehending several individuals in a series of swift and coordinated operations across Imphal East and West districts on July 28 and 29. The arrests underscore the ongoing intensified efforts by authorities to dismantle extortion networks and quell insurgent activities plaguing the region.
The crackdown commenced on July 28 with the arrest of Md. Samir Khan alias Inao, 45, from Kairang Umang Mayai Leikai, Heingang, Imphal East. Khan is reportedly a member of the ‘Ningolmacha’ criminal group. From his possession, security personnel recovered a .32 calibre pistol, a 9mm pistol magazine, one .32 calibre ammunition, two rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a mobile phone.
In a separate action on the same day, security forces nabbed Thiyam Boynao Singh, 47, an active cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP (PWG)], near the Mahabali River bank in Haokip Veng, Imphal East. An Aadhaar card was recovered from him during the arrest.
The operations continued with vigour on July 29, witnessing a coordinated combing and cordon-and-search effort that led to the apprehension of two active cadres of the KCP (Military & Foreign Liaison) faction—KCP (MFL). Khaidem Nongpoknganba Singh of Lamlai Mayai Leikai, Imphal East, was first apprehended from Nongada Awang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station. He is suspected of involvement in a firing incident on July 10 at Napet Palli village and in the concealment and transportation of arms for the banned outfit.
Following disclosures made by Nongpoknganba, Thounaojam Ashokumar Singh of Leiphrakpam Mamang Leikai, Thoubal district, was subsequently arrested from Langthabal Kunja under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West. The duo yielded a 9mm pistol with a magazine, two mobile handsets, a wallet containing ₹510, and an Aadhaar card. Authorities have affirmed their unwavering resolve to ensure public safety by rooting out such elements through targeted intelligence-based action.
