Manipur: Curfew Imposed in Imphal West and East Amidst Rising Tensions
Imphal: Tensions in Manipur escalated further on Sunday evening, prompting authorities to impose a curfew in Imphal West and Imphal East districts.
The decision came after a large mob attempted to breach the ancestral home of MLA Kongkham Robindro in Mayang, Imphal. Security forces were deployed to disperse the crowd and prevent any further escalation.
As a precautionary measure, security has been tightened around the Chief Minister’s residence and Raj Bhavan. The streets of Imphal wore a deserted look on Monday morning, with minimal vehicular movement.
To maintain law and order, the army and CRPF personnel are conducting regular flag marches in the city. The situation in Imphal and the surrounding valley areas is currently reported to be under control.
