Manipur: Curfew Relaxation Announced in Imphal Districts for Essential Purchases

Northeast Desk, 14th September: The district magistrates of Imphal East and Imphal West have announced a temporary relaxation of curfew restrictions on Saturday, allowing residents to purchase essential items such as food, medicines, and other necessities. The curfew will be eased from 5 am to 4 pm, with strict limitations on non-essential activities.

The curfew, imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, has been in effect since September 1 due to ongoing law and order concerns. The orders specify that while people are allowed to shop for essentials during the relaxation, any form of large gatherings, rallies, protests, or other unlawful activities remains strictly prohibited.

Passengers traveling to and from the airport will not be impacted by the curfew, ensuring uninterrupted transit for those with scheduled flights. Additionally, individuals involved in essential services such as healthcare, electricity, public health, and media, along with municipal staff and petrol pump workers, are exempt from the curfew restrictions.

The curfew was initially imposed to maintain peace and order in the region, and it will continue outside of the relaxation hours until further notice.
