Manipur Declares Closure of Educational Institutions Amid Intense Rainfall

Northeast Desk, 6th May: In response to intense rainfall and adverse weather conditions, all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, in Manipur will remain closed on May 6 and May 7, announced Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The decision, made as a precautionary measure, aims to mitigate risks associated with the current weather conditions. Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to social media platform X to communicate the government’s directive, urging citizens to stay updated and safe indoors.

“Heavy rain, accompanied by hailstorms, struck several parts of Manipur on Sunday, causing damage to houses and vehicles,” stated the Chief Minister. Areas such as Canchipur and Tera in Imphal West were particularly affected, with reports of damaged houses and blown-away hutments due to strong winds.

While official figures regarding the extent of damage and loss of lives are yet to be released, the state government issued a notice requesting the public to submit reports of damages caused by the hailstorm on May 5. Citizens were asked to provide details and photographs depicting the impact of the extreme weather conditions.

In a bid to provide immediate assistance to the affected residents, Chief Minister N Biren Singh extended government support and shared helpline numbers for various districts impacted by the intense climatic conditions. Residents were encouraged to reach out for assistance and support.
