Manipur: Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee Condemns Killings in state Hills
Northeast Desk, 15th December: The Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) has strongly condemned the tragic incident in Manipur where four civilians lost their lives on January 10. The DMCC, representing the Meitei community in the National Capital Region (NCR) of India, expressed its commitment to fostering community harmony and advocating for the welfare of the Meitei people.
The victims, who were gathering firewood in the hills, fell victim to senseless violence by suspected Kuki militants. Identified as Oinam Romen Meitei, Ahanthem Dara Meitei, Thoudam Ibomcha Meitei, and Thoudam Anand Meitei, the victims endured brutal torture and wounds.
The DMCC highlighted the complete lawlessness in the hill areas, emphasizing the free movement of armed miscreants and over a dozen Kuki SoO militant groups. The committee raised concerns about the ongoing conflict, lasting eight months, leading to significant destruction of lives and property for the common people. Despite the deployment of more than 60,000 paramilitary forces and the creation of a controversial “buffer zone,” innocent civilians continue to face violence.
The DMCC questioned the effectiveness of central armed forces and the presence of AFSPA in preventing such killings in the designated areas. The release underscores the urgency of addressing the security situation and ensuring the safety and well-being of civilians in the conflict-affected regions.
