Manipur DGP Calls for Peaceful Dialogue Between Communities to Restore Normalcy
Imphal– Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh on October 19 emphasized the urgent need for a peaceful dialogue between communities in conflict-stricken Manipur to restore normalcy. Addressing the media, Singh acknowledged the difficult circumstances faced by the state but affirmed that efforts are being made to address the situation effectively.
“These are very challenging times, but we have been trying to tackle it with the best possible strength and with the cooperation of everybody,” said Singh, acknowledging the disruptions caused by ongoing violence. However, he noted that improvements have been made over the past 18 months. “Violence, deaths, and injuries have come down. There are sporadic incidents of arson and firing, but all the security forces are alert.”
Singh underscored the importance of dialogue, stating that a peaceful resolution can only be reached by including all stakeholders. “The only solution for this problem finally will be a peaceful dialogue between both communities,” he stressed, urging conflicting parties to step forward with suggestions for resolving the crisis.
The DGP also highlighted the restraint exercised by security forces to avoid unnecessary harm to civilians. “We are a very civilian-friendly force,” he said, explaining that refraining from the use of excessive force is crucial in preventing further damage to innocent lives.
As Manipur continues to navigate these challenging times, Singh’s call for dialogue represents a critical step toward building peace and restoring order in the region.
