Manipur Distributes Fish Fingerlings to Flood-Affected Farmers
Imphal: In a commendable effort to aid flood-ravaged farmers, Manipur’s Fisheries Department distributed lakhs of fish fingerlings to over 200 affected individuals across five valley districts.
The distribution event, held at the Directorate of Fisheries office complex, saw Director Heisnam Balkrisna Singh and his team distributing Pengba and Indian Major Carp fingerlings to farmers from Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Kakching districts.
The initiative was a collaborative effort between the Manipur Fisheries Department and the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture Bhubaneswar, under the ICAR CIFA NEH outreach program.
The distribution comes in the wake of devastating floods that struck the state in late May, affecting over 1.88 lakh people and damaging over 24,000 homes, primarily in the Imphal Valley.
