Manipur District Administration Issues Stern Ultimatum to Encroachers on National Highways

Kangpokpi – In a decisive move to decongest national highways and ensure public safety, Kangpokpi’s Deputy Commissioner, Mahesh Chaudhari, has issued a final warning to all individuals and establishments with unauthorised structures along key arterial routes.

The order, which came into effect on August 12, mandates the complete removal of all encroachments by 3:00 pm on August 28, failing which the district administration will initiate a forceful demolition drive.

Citing multiple reports from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), field officers, and direct observations, Chaudhari highlighted that a multitude of illegal constructions—including house extensions, shops, sheds, and various other permanent and temporary structures—are obstructing traffic flow and creating significant safety risks for commuters.

The eviction drive will specifically target illegal constructions along NH-02 (the vital Imphal–Kohima Road) and NH-37 (the Imphal–Jiribam Road), with footpaths also being a primary focus. The order makes it unequivocally clear that any structures remaining after the deadline will be demolished by the district authorities, and the financial burden of this operation will be squarely placed upon the encroachers. This move is seen as a strong step to restore order and public convenience along the district’s crucial road networks.
