Manipur: District-Wide Aadhaar Blitz to Commence, Deactivation Looms for Non-Compliance

BISHNUPUR – In a move set to reshape civic engagement across the district, Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam today unveiled a sweeping initiative aimed at achieving 100% Aadhaar saturation, coupled with a stern warning about the potential deactivation of cards for those failing to update biometric data at designated age milestones.

The announcement, made during a pivotal District Level Aadhaar Monitoring Committee meeting held at the Mini Secretariat Complex, signals a renewed push for universal Aadhaar enrolment and compliance, with a focused drive slated to kick off on July 7, 2025.

Elangbam underscored the critical importance of mandatory biometric updates, particularly for children traversing two vital age brackets: 5-7 years and again at 15-17 years. “Failure to update Aadhaar during these mandatory periods could lead to deactivation,” she cautioned, urging parents and guardians to prioritise these updates to avert any disruption in accessing essential government services. The district administration has positioned Aadhaar as an indispensable cornerstone for public service delivery and documentation, making this saturation drive a flagship undertaking for the current year. The comprehensive campaign is designed to penetrate every household, ensuring no resident is inadvertently excluded from possessing this fundamental identification document.

Providing expert guidance at the meeting was Oinam John Singh, Assistant Manager from the Regional Office, Guwahati of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Singh elucidated on intricate strategies devised to meet saturation targets, including the rollout of Birth Registration-Based Aadhaar Enrolment (BRBAE) projects and the strategic utilisation of state government portals for digitally verifiable documents.

The gathering saw the convergence of key administrative stalwarts, including Additional District Magistrate Toijam Opendro, along with Sub-Divisional Officers and Block Development Officers representing Nambol, Bishnupur, and Moirang subdivisions. Also in attendance were the Chief Medical Officer and Zonal Education Officer, underscoring the multi-sectoral approach to this district-wide endeavour. Elangbam issued clear directives to all department heads, urging them to harness every available touchpoint within their respective purviews to disseminate information and heighten awareness regarding the crucial significance of Aadhaar enrolment and timely updates.
