Manipur: DMU Students End Hunger Strike as State Government Partially Meets Demands

Northeast Desk, 19th July: In a significant development, the 10-day hunger strike by Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) students came to an end today, July 19, after the state government partially fulfilled their demands. T. Dijen, General Secretary of the DMU Students’ Union, announced the decision to call off the protest during a press briefing.

The students had been demanding the appointment of key administrative positions, including a vice-chancellor, registrar, controller of examinations, and finance officers. While most of these positions have been filled, the appointment of a vice-chancellor is still pending. Despite this, the students have expressed gratitude to the state government for their swift action and are optimistic about DMU’s future as a premier institution.

The announcement follows a syndicate meeting at DMU yesterday, where the declaration of results for various teaching and non-teaching positions was discussed and subsequently announced. With their demands partially met, the students have halted their hunger strike, marking a significant milestone in their protest.
