Manipur Doctors Threaten To Shut Down OPD Closure If Govt Fails To Fulfill Demands By Dec 31

Guwahati: The All Manipur Health Services Doctors’ Association (AMHSDA) decided to start an OPD closure strike if the state government does not put its words into action by December 31 in response to their condemnation of the state government for failing to take any action to fulfill their assurance made in connection with the outstanding demand.

In a press release, AMHSDA stated that the organisation had recently resolved to shut down OPD service for two days starting on December 27 as part of a continuous action began two years ago pushing to fulfil some basic needs.

However, the association did end the OPD closure strike as promised by the state government at the meeting on December 26.

They also agreed to raise the issue before December comes to an end and to cancel the show cause notice that had been issued to annoy doctors.

”But in reality, no visible sign of preparation of memo to hold cabinet meeting is seen till December and show cause notice is also still in withheld and no formal order was out,” the statement added.

The release stated that if the state government fails to implement their demand before December 31, 2022, they will begin to escalate their agitation and shut down and permanently close OPD.

Notably, on December 27, the state government’s pledge caused the All Manipur Health Services Doctor’s Association (AMHSDA) to temporarily halt its intended two-day OPD closure strike.

The decision was taken after the AMHSDA held a meeting with the delegation of the Manipur government comprising the Health Minister, Additional Chief Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Services, and Director, Health Services.

”To work out a logical and amicable resolution, discussion point by point, and after mutual understanding and assurances, the Government Representatives agreed and assured to prepare and put up in the December 2022 Cabinet Meeting at the earliest before month end. On common understanding and trust the 2(two days OPD services Shut Down w.e.f. 27th December 2022 followed by indefinitely will remain suspended temporarily until further notification,” Dr. Lolee P Mao, General Secretary, AMHSDA had said in an official statement.
