Manipur: Draft Electoral Rolls for Assembly Constituencies Published

Northeast Desk, 27th October: The Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) in Manipur released the Draft Electoral Rolls on 27th October for sixty Assembly Constituencies. This significant step aligns with the schedule set by the Election Commission of India.

The public, electors, and political party representatives are encouraged to inspect and verify the Draft Photo Electoral Rolls. They can do so at the offices of the Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, and with all Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Additionally, these rolls are available for inspection on the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur’s website: https://ceomanipur.nic.in.

The Draft Electoral Rolls for 2024 reveal some key statistics:

  • Gender ratio: 1066 (compared to 1068 in the Final Electoral Rolls of 2023)
  • Elector Population Ratio: 55.04% (compared to 57.35% in the previous rolls)
  • Total number of electors: 20,08,432, showing a net decrease of 49,422 electors from the Final Electoral Roll of 2023 (20,57,854)
  • Polling stations remain at 2,955; some rationalization and shifting have occurred in consultation with political parties.

The Special Summary Revision for the year 2024 begins with the publication of the Draft Electoral Roll. The period for filing claims and objections is from October 27 to December 9, 2023, with special campaign dates on November 4, November 5, December 2, and December 3. The disposal of claims and objections is scheduled for December 12, and the final electoral roll will be available on January 5.

During this period, individuals can enroll, delete, make corrections, and apply for shifting their names in the electoral roll. Application forms can be submitted physically to the Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, and Booth Level Officers. Online submission is also possible through voters.eci.gov.in and the Voter Helpline Mobile App.

The release also mentions that those who become eligible, with the prescribed age of 18 years and above by January 15, 2024 (and subsequent qualifying dates of April 1, 2024, July 1, 2024, and October 1, 2024), can submit their claims in Form-6 in advance.

Efforts will be made to enroll more young voters through activities in educational institutions, universities, and colleges. Electoral Literacy Clubs will be activated in schools and colleges, and special camps will be organized to create awareness and facilitate voter registration.

The statement calls upon every eligible member of the community to step up, register their names in the voter records, and play an engaged role in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election.
