Manipur Economic Blockade by ATSUM, Hundreds of Vehicles Stuck
Guwahati: The All-Tribal Student Union of Manipur (ATSUM) has continued its economic blockade, leaving hundreds of vehicles trapped along the Imphal-Dimapur road.
According to reports, the blockage has caused hundreds of vehicles carrying necessities to be stucked.
Reportedly, the economic blockade has had an impact on daily life in the state’s hill districts in the northeast.
Additionally, intermittent arson incidences were also recorded on Saturday and Sunday from Manipur’s hill areas.
As per reports, the Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was the subject of what the ATSUM referred to as an “economic blockade” on Friday.
Moreover, the Manipur government has shut down mobile internet access for the whole state for five days.
According to a directive from the Manipur phone department, “all mobile service providers are hereby required to ensure compliance with this order.”
However, for the past two months, Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts have been subject to section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Meanwhile, the ATSUM has promised to escalate its protest in order to get five of its officials immediately released from detention.
