Manipur Election Results: BJP leads in 12 Assembly Constituencies
Guwahati: As the counting for the Manipur Assembly elections is underway, early results indicate that the BJP is leading in 19 assembly constituencies, while the Congress is leading in 9 assembly constituencies.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh is currently ahead by 2,598 votes in the Heingang constituency.
All eyes are on the outcome of Manipur’s Assembly elections, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to retain power, although the Congress also hopes to win. Manipur’s assembly elections were held in two phases on February 28 and March 5.
The Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance, which includes the Congress, the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Forward Bloc, the Revolutionary Socialist Party, and the Janata Dal, is arrayed against the BJP (Secular). While the two major parties are considered to be the front-runners, other parties such as the National People’s Party (NPP), Naga People’s Front (NPF), and the JD(U) are likely to play key roles if a coalition is formed because no one party can win a majority.
Exit polls in Manipur had indicated that the ruling BJP will either win the election outright or cross the halfway point.
It needs to be mentioned at in 2017, the Congress emerged as the state’s single-largest political party. Manipur’s Assembly elections in 2017 were a watershed point in the northeast’s power transition. Despite the fact that the Congress won 28 seats in the 60-member parliament, the BJP, which won 21, received assistance from four MLAs from the Naga People’s Front and the National People’s Party, as well as one from the Lok Janshakti Party and an independent, to reach the magic number of 31. The NPP and NPF are expected to repeat or improve on their 2017 result, according to most polls.
