Manipur: Ereimang Band Enthralls Audience at Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival

Imphal – Manipur-based band Ereimang captivated the audience with a mesmerizing performance on the third day of the 2nd Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival (EIIFF) at City Convention Centre. Their unique blend of traditional Manipuri folk music, alternative noise-rock, and metal struck a powerful chord with festival attendees.

The band’s debut single, “Kwakta Lamjel” (March 2023), is an adaptation of an episode from the legendary Manipuri epic “Khamba Thoibi”, traditionally sung with the Pena, a revered indigenous instrument. The song narrates the gripping race between Khamba and Nongban, a defining moment in the epic.

In a visually striking performance, a dancer portrayed a shaman in a trance, embodying a god playing polo during the sacred Lai Haraoba ritual of the Meitei community, adding depth to the band’s immersive act.

Ereimang has quickly emerged as a standout musical project, fusing Manipuri folk elements with modern rock and metal influences, redefining the region’s contemporary music scene.

Earlier, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering Manipur’s cinematic culture, inviting audiences to experience EIIFF 2025 after a two-year hiatus. The festival, running from *February 6 to 9, features 56 films, uniting global and regional cinema on a shared platform.

Taking to his official X handle, the Chief Minister emphasized that the festival is a celebration of storytelling, creativity, and artistic resilience, highlighting Manipur’s rich cultural contributions to the world stage.
