Manipur Extends Internet Shutdown in 9 Districts
Imphal: The Manipur government has decided to extend the suspension of mobile internet services in nine districts of the state until December 5th, 5:15 PM. This extension comes as authorities continue to grapple with the ongoing law and order situation.
The affected districts include Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl, and Jiribam. The decision to prolong the internet blackout was made after a comprehensive review of the prevailing circumstances.
The internet shutdown was initially imposed on November 16th following a series of violent incidents that erupted in the state. These disturbances were triggered by the discovery of the bodies of three women and three children in the Jiri and Barak rivers of Manipur and Assam, respectively.
While the government has partially lifted the restrictions on broadband services to alleviate the hardships faced by the public, the mobile internet ban remains in effect. This decision has raised concerns about the impact on communication, commerce, and education in the affected regions.
