Manipur: Flash Bandh Called in Churachandpur District to Honor Martyrs; Urgent Shutdown After Recent Violence

Northeast Desk, 25th November: In the wake of recent violence leading to the loss of lives, the Kuki Student Body has announced a flash bandh in Churachandpur district, effective immediately, to pay homage to the martyrs. The decision comes after Khupminthang Haokip, the only son of a widowed mother, was killed by armed miscreants in Joupi, a Kuki village.

A ceremony is scheduled to be held today to honor the memory of Khupminthang Haokip, prompting the immediate shutdown in the district. The Kuki Student Body aims to express solidarity and mourn the tragic loss of lives in the ongoing violence.

The recent ambush also claimed the lives of Thangminlun Hangshing and IRB personnel Henminlen Vaiphei in the Kangchup area. This incident follows a previous attack on September 12, where three Kuki-Zo lost their lives. In response, the Committee on Tribal Unity, Sadar Hills Kangpokpi (CoTU), has declared an emergency shutdown across Kangpokpi district, leading to the closure of businesses and restricted vehicle movement for 48 hours.

As the region grapples with the aftermath of these incidents, the flash bandh serves as a collective expression of grief and a call for peace.
