Manipur Flood: Security Forces Join Hands for Rescue, Schools Extend Holidays
IMPHAL: As relentless floodwaters continue to wreak havoc across Manipur’s Imphal valley, a robust multi-agency effort is underway, with security forces joining hands with civil authorities to provide much-needed rescue and relief. Personnel from the Manipur Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Manipur Fire Service, Assam Rifles, and the Indian Army are operating round the clock, battling the rising waters and assisting stranded residents.
A key focus of these coordinated operations has been the urgent reinforcement of vulnerable embankments in critical areas, a proactive measure to prevent any further breaches and mitigate the escalating damage. Simultaneously, concerted rescue missions have successfully evacuated numerous individuals, including young children and the elderly, from severely inundated localities within Imphal East, bringing them to safety. Authorities across the state remain on high alert, continuously monitoring the evolving flood situation.
In a related development, the Manipur Governor has issued a directive extending the summer holidays for all government, government-aided, and private schools located in Imphal East, Imphal West, and the Senapati Sub-Division of Senapati district. This order will remain in effect until further notice, providing a necessary respite for students and faculty amidst the ongoing crisis.
Furthermore, the state administration has empowered the Deputy Commissioners of each district to assess the local conditions daily and make independent decisions regarding the closure or reopening of schools under their respective jurisdictions, ensuring a localised and responsive approach to the unfolding situation.
