Manipur Foils Militant Bid: Three KYKL Cadres Nabbed Near Border
Imphal: In a significant breakthrough against insurgency, Manipur security forces on May 31 apprehended three operatives of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) outfit. The arrests were made near the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district, marking a crucial step in maintaining stability in the region.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Aheibam Ajay Singh, 25, from Sugnu Awang Mandop Leikai in Kakching district; Leikhuram Johnson Meitei, 22, from Moirang Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district; and Sagolsem Sanajaoba Singh, 26, from Singjamei Akampat Leikai in Imphal West district. Their capture is expected to provide vital intelligence on the activities and network of the banned outfit.
Concurrent to the arrests, extensive search and area domination exercises were meticulously carried out across the vulnerable fringe and interior regions of both hill and valley districts. These coordinated efforts underscore the heightened vigilance of security forces in pre-empting any attempts to destabilise the peace.
One such operation, conducted in the general area of Khuangmun under Churachandpur Police Station, yielded a considerable cache of arms and ammunition. Recoveries included a .303 rifle with an empty magazine, four single barrel guns, three modified long-range mortars, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing three and one kilogram respectively, two live Pompi (bomb shell) rounds, two bulletproof jackets with plates, a helmet, two ammunition pouches, and a Baofeng radio set.
In a separate but equally vital operation at the roadside of Khumbong Loubuk Lambi Tera Makhong Road under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district, security personnel seized a locally made carbine machine gun with magazine, a double barrel gun, a single barrel gun, and a .32 pistol with magazine. The haul also included two 7.62 LMG magazines, a No. 36 HE grenade with detonator, a Chinese hand grenade, two stun grenades, along with numerous rounds of 9 mm, AK rifle, .45 mm and .22 ammunition. Additionally, three bulletproof vests, six bulletproof plates (two iron and four fibre), and camouflage uniforms were confiscated, further dismantling the logistical capabilities of the militant groups.
These decisive operations represent a major stride in the ongoing commitment of security forces to counter insurgency and ensure lasting peace and security for the people of Manipur. The sustained pressure on militant outfits reaffirms the resolve to eliminate any threats to the state’s tranquillity.
