Manipur: Foothill Naga Joint Action Committee Condemns Lawlessness in Leimakhong, Warns of Repercussions

Imphal: The Foothill Naga Joint Action Committee (FNJAC) has issued a stern statement condemning the alleged criminal activities of “illegal immigrants and refugees” in Nagaland’s Leimakhong area, accusing them of engaging in robbery, extortion, and mob attacks that have disrupted daily life for the local Naga population.

The FNJAC highlighted a series of incidents that have fueled tensions, including a recent robbery on November 30, 2024, and the looting of a church in Leimakhong Chingmang. The committee also pointed to derogatory remarks made by members of the Leimakhong Area Protection Committee in response to the robbery, claiming these further strained relations.

A particularly unsettling event cited in the statement occurred on June 18, 2023, when a Naga house was allegedly set on fire by illegal immigrants. The case, registered at Sekmai Police Station, remains unresolved, amplifying frustrations over perceived inaction by law enforcement.

The FNJAC expressed dismay over what it described as a lack of gratitude for humanitarian gestures extended by the Nagas, including allowing free passage through Naga areas, which they termed a vital “lifeline” for many. The statement also accused the groups of engaging in poppy cultivation, linking it to broader security and societal issues.

While emphasizing their commitment to peace, Naga leaders warned that continued provocations could compel them to take “decisive action” to protect their community and property.

Local authorities have not yet responded to the allegations, but the escalating situation highlights the urgent need for dialogue and intervention to address grievances and restore harmony in the region.
