Manipur Forces Net Drug Peddler with Rs 24 Lakh WY Tablets
Imphal: In a significant stride against the pervasive drug menace, security forces in Manipur on Wednesday apprehended one individual in Senapati district with a substantial haul of suspected WY tablets, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 24 lakh in the illicit market.
The accused, identified as Makakmayum Firdos Sharif, 26, hailing from Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai in Imphal East district, was intercepted at the T. Khullen Naka Checkpoint during a routine vehicle inspection. The vigilant security personnel on duty made the decisive arrest.
Upon searching Sharif’s possession, authorities recovered a staggering 29,974 suspected WY tablets, meticulously packed into 150 individual packets. Also seized were the Hyundai i20 vehicle used for transport, along with its key and Registration Certificate, an Apple iPhone, and personal identification documents including an Aadhaar card and a Voter ID card.
The confiscated drugs and articles have been taken into custody as investigations proceed. Officials suspect Sharif’s involvement extends beyond a mere isolated incident, pointing towards a potential connection to a broader drug distribution network operating within the region, and further interrogation is underway to unearth these links.
