Manipur Forces Net Three Militants in Two-Day Crackdown
IMPHAL – In a significant boost to security efforts, Manipur’s security forces have apprehended three active members of various factions of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) in a series of swift and coordinated operations spanning two days. The arrests underscore a renewed resolve to dismantle militant networks and curb extortion activities plaguing the state.
The spate of arrests began on August 10 when Manipur Police zeroed in on Huidrom Suder Singh, 39, alias Sanathoi, from Khurai Chaithabi Leirak. A self-proclaimed cadre of KCP (Noyon), Singh allegedly spearheaded a sophisticated extortion racket in the Khabeisoi area, channelling funds to bolster the banned outfit’s operations. Two mobile phones, believed to be instrumental in his illicit activities, were seized from his possession.
The following day saw a twin triumph for the forces. In a precision-based operation, security personnel apprehended Wakambam Sunilkanta Meitei, 25, an active member of KCP (Apunba City Meitei), from his residence in Pungdongbam Awang Leikai. Simultaneously, in a separate intelligence-led raid, Mayengbam Amitab Singh, 32, a key cadre of KCP (PWG) and a resident of Kakching district, was nabbed from the Tekcham Maning Ching area. Singh’s capture is a major breakthrough, as he is implicated in a recent firing incident targeting CDO personnel and has been linked to issuing threats to staff at the National Institute of Technology, Imphal. The haul from his arrest was substantial, including a .32 pistol with a magazine, 50 live rounds of assorted calibres, four INSAS magazines, and two mobile phones, confirming his deep involvement in armed militancy.
The arrests were made amidst intensified law enforcement drives across the state. Authorities have been conducting extensive search and area domination exercises in sensitive regions. The crackdown also extended to traffic enforcement, with police issuing 21 challans amounting to ₹39,000 to violators and removing tinted films from 26 vehicles. Furthermore, 111 checkpoints were established across hill and valley districts, leading to the detention of 11 individuals for verification as part of the ongoing effort to ensure peace and stability in the region.
