Manipur: Former BJYM President Arrested in Connection with Shooting Incident

Northeast Desk, 23rd October: In a significant development, the Manipur Police apprehended the former president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Manipur unit, Manoharmayum Barish Sharma, on the late evening of Saturday, October 21. This arrest is connected to the shooting incident that transpired on the night of October 14, which resulted in gunshot wounds to five individuals, including a woman, during a violent episode in Kwakeithel Konjeng Haraji Leikai under the jurisdiction of Imphal police station.

Following his arrest, Manoharmayum Barish Sharma was presented before the Imphal West district magistrate on Sunday. Subsequently, he was remanded into custody until October 25.

Sharma faces a series of charges, including violations of the Arms Act, breaching curfew orders, criminal intimidation, and attempted murder.

This shooting incident led to the launch of a case investigation, and a team from the Imphal police station has taken action by arresting three individuals, one of whom is the incumbent vice president of BJYM Manipur Pradesh, all allegedly linked to the shooting incident. This development underscores the authorities’ commitment to addressing and resolving the situation surrounding the violent incident.
