Manipur: Fresh Violence Erupts in Imphal East District
Northeast Desk, 7th February: A fresh wave of violence broke out in the region on February 7 as armed miscreants launched an attack at Itham Moirang Purel, located under the Imphal East district, this morning.
Following a similar armed assault at Tumukhong in the Imphal East district just a day prior, suspected armed individuals once again struck using sophisticated weapons at the neighboring village of Itham Moirang Purel around 3:10 am.
Reports indicate that the armed miscreants targeted village defense volunteers and security forces during the early hours of February 7. This provoked the security forces to retaliate, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far.
The assailants, reportedly heavily armed, descended from the hills of Molham Kuki Village towards the sand mining area situated between Nongdam Tangkhul and Tumukhong Meetei Village during the previous attack. Indiscriminate firing ensued towards individuals engaged in sand mining, narrowly avoiding casualties among innocent sand miners.
