Imphal: In a significant development, the Manipur government has categorically dismissed the claims made by the Kuki-Zo Council, a purported organization that has been making public statements.
The government has asserted that no such organization exists within the state’s administrative framework. Notably, the council has cited Lamka as its headquarters, a district that does not fall under Manipur’s jurisdiction, further fueling doubts about its authenticity and potential external influence.
In light of these developments and growing security concerns related to cross-border movement, the Ministry of Home Affairs has re-implemented the Protected Area Regime in Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland. This move will tighten border controls and mandate that foreigners entering Manipur obtain Protected Area Permits (PAP) as per the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order, 1958.
Local authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the motives behind the Kuki-Zo Council’s activities. An FIR is expected to be filed soon to delve deeper into the matter. The government has urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid spreading misinformation or rumors, especially those disseminated by unverified sources.
The Manipur government has reiterated its commitment to peace and harmony in the state, urging citizens to rely on official channels for accurate information. It has also called on media outlets to exercise caution and refrain from amplifying statements from unauthorized entities. The government has made it clear that any attempts to disrupt the state’s peace and stability will be dealt with firmly.
