Manipur Government Denounces Delay Rumors, Assures Relief Material Disbursement Amidst Turmoil

Northeast Desk, 25th February: In response to the prevailing conflict and unrest in Manipur, the state government has refuted rumors regarding delays in the distribution of relief materials across all relief camps in the region.

The Home Department of the Government of Manipur issued a press release condemning the violent incident on February 15, where an enraged mob vandalized and set fire to the offices of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) in Churachandpur. The mob also targeted twelve trucks and buses parked within the office complex, two of which were transporting relief materials intended for Churachandpur District. Additionally, the official residence of the DC, Churachandpur, was set ablaze during the incident. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives, and a security forces personnel sustained injuries. Furthermore, reports indicated that the national flag was disrespected during the chaotic events. The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) also issued direct threats against the DC and SP of Churachandpur District, compelling them to vacate the area under a strict ultimatum.

Despite the volatile circumstances, the government remains dedicated to the welfare of displaced individuals. Numerous welfare initiatives have been launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs. The government categorically denied any delay in the distribution of relief materials, ensuring that all provisions are disbursed promptly.

Nevertheless, the destruction of the DC’s office and residence, along with official records and documents, poses significant challenges. The government has initiated efforts to reconstruct the damaged documents and remains committed to ensuring timely relief for all affected individuals. An earnest appeal has been made to extend support to the District Administration in their endeavor to assist displaced persons during these trying times.
