Manipur Government Issues Directive Amid Planned Rallies by Zomi and Kuki Student Groups

Northeast Desk, 30th August: The Manipur State Government has responded to public notices issued by the Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF) and Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), which have called for rallies and shutdowns on August 31, 2024. The ZSF had announced its rally on August 26, while the KSO followed with a notice on August 29, advocating for a rally in Kangpokpi District and urging the closure of government offices and private institutions.

In light of these developments, the state government has issued strict instructions to ensure the maintenance of law and order. Authorities are taking the calls for mass rallies and shutdowns seriously, particularly given the fragile security situation in the region.

The government has urged the public to keep business establishments, government offices, and private institutions open and functioning normally. Heads of central and state government institutions have been instructed to ensure that operations continue uninterrupted during the planned rallies.

The government has also warned that any individual found inciting or participating in activities that disrupt public order will be subject to legal action under relevant laws. This move reflects the government’s determination to prevent any escalation of tensions during these planned events.
