Manipur Government Likely to Support NPF Candidate in Outer Manipur Lok Sabha Constituency

Northeast Desk, 22nd March: According to insider sources, the government led by Biren Singh is inclined to throw its weight behind the Naga People’s Front (NPF) candidate in the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency. It’s reported that while the Central government initially considered fielding Manipur CM Biren Singh himself for the Lok Sabha polls, he declined the offer.

In the Inner Manipur Constituency, the BJP is contemplating nominating either the incumbent MP Rajkumar Ranjan Singh or MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh, who also happens to be the chief minister’s son-in-law.

However, the BJP’s stance on the Outer Manipur constituency remains undecided. Sources suggest that the Biren Singh-led administration is leaning towards extending support to the Naga People’s Front (NPF) for this particular constituency.

In response to the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the NPF has declared Kachui Timothy Zimik as its candidate for the II-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency. Zimik, a retired Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, will replace the current NPF parliamentarian, Dr. Lorho S Pfoze.

The decision to field Zimik was finalized during a crucial meeting of the NPF’s Central Working Committee on March 20.
