Manipur Government to Honour Unsung Freedom Fighters

Guwahati: Every unsung hero from Manipur who participated in the liberation fight and battled against British rule shall be honoured as martyrs by the state government.

This was said by the state’s chief minister, N Biren Singh, during a speech at the Manipur University’s “One Day National Dialogue on Tribal Heroes in India’s Freedom Struggle.”

After Narendra Modi was elected as Prime Minister of India in 2014, according to CM Biren Singh, the Central government has taken the initiative to honour all the unsung heroes of India’s freedom struggle.

He said, “Everyone who had contributed to our freedom struggle should be honoured.”

The chief minister stated that it was the proper moment to conduct the necessary research and bring out the names of the unsung heroes, mentioning that an Indian Coast Guard ship was named after the state’s liberation warrior, Rani Gaidinliu.

The initiative, which is being held at 125 campuses nationwide, aims to honour the legendary role played by tribal heroes in the war for independence.

Additionally, it aims to educate tribal youngsters about the sacrifices made by their tribe throughout the struggle for independence.
