Manipur Government to Introduce GST Amendment Bill in Upcoming Assembly Session

Northeast Desk, 25th February: The Manipur government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, has announced its intention to introduce an amendment bill concerning the Goods and Services Tax (GST) during the forthcoming assembly session scheduled to commence on February 28. This decision was made during a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, as disclosed by state Information and Public Relations Minister Sapam Ranjan.

According to Sapam Ranjan, the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (6th Amendment Bill), 2024, will be presented in the upcoming assembly session. Additionally, discussions on various budget-related matters transpired during the cabinet meeting, including the presentation of reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, as well as revised estimates for the fiscal year 2023-24. Furthermore, the budget estimates for the fiscal year 2024-25 are scheduled to be unveiled during the session, which is expected to run until March 5.

In a significant development, the cabinet has also agreed to propose the implementation of the recommendations of the second National Judicial Pay Commission for the payment of allowances to the Manipur judicial service, effective from January 1, 2016, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order.

Furthermore, the council of ministers has approved the introduction of the Manipur Labour Laws (Exemption from Renewal of Registration and Licence by establishment) Manipur, Bill 2024 in the assembly. Addressing infrastructure needs, the cabinet has also given the green light for the direct purchase of 3.77 acres of land for the establishment of an automated testing station in Imphal East district.
