Manipur Governor Engages with CRPF Officials and Legal Representatives Amidst Ongoing Violence
Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla held discussions with senior officials from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and representatives of the All Manipur Bar Association to address the ongoing crisis in the violence-hit state, according to an official statement.
The governor met with Raja Srivastava, Special DG of the CRPF North East Zone, and two senior officers, who provided an update on the deployment and operational strategies of the CRPF in the region. Discussions focused on ensuring security and stability in the state, which has been grappling with ethnic violence for several months.
In a separate meeting, representatives of the All Manipur Bar Association briefed the governor about the legal and humanitarian challenges stemming from the unrest. They raised concerns about the impact of the conflict on access to justice and the overall rule of law in the state.
Governor Bhalla assured the legal representatives of his commitment to extending all possible assistance and emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to restore normalcy.
The state has been embroiled in ethnic violence since May 3, 2024, with over 250 people killed and thousands displaced due to clashes between the Meitei community in the Imphal Valley and the Kuki-Zo groups residing in the surrounding hill areas. The ongoing conflict has severely disrupted daily life, highlighting the urgent need for sustained peace-building efforts.
