Manipur Govt Relieves Senior SP (Combat) After Jiribam Firing Incident
Imphal: In the wake of the unfortunate Jiribam firing incident that claimed one life and injured another, the Manipur government has taken decisive action by relieving Senior SP (Combat) Col (Retd) Nectar Sanjenbam of his duties.
An internal probe was initiated to scrutinize the circumstances surrounding the incident, which unfolded during a violent clash between security forces and a mob on Sunday night. Eyewitness accounts suggest that shots were fired from the direction of the security forces, though the police have yet to confirm the exact source of the gunfire.
To ensure a comprehensive and impartial investigation, the government has constituted a two-member inquiry committee headed by IGP (Intelligence) K Kabib. Ningsen Worngam, DIG (Range III), will serve as the committee’s member. The panel is mandated to delve into the root causes of the firing, examine the sequence of events, and determine whether any misconduct or foul play by public authorities may have contributed to the tragic outcome.
The inquiry committee is expected to submit its findings within a period of 30 days.
