Manipur: GP Women’s College Students Protest Bomb Threat, Demand Tighter Security for Campuses
Imphal: In response to a recent bomb scare at GP Women’s College, students organized a protest today, expressing deep concern over campus security and calling for increased protective measures for educational institutions statewide.
This demonstration follows the alarming discovery of a hand grenade near the college’s main entrance on Monday, a situation that has sparked urgent calls for action from students and staff alike.
The college’s location near sensitive areas like the Raj Bhavan and the Chief Minister’s residence has heightened anxiety over how such a security breach could occur in a supposedly protected zone. “If this can happen here, near high-security areas, what does it mean for schools and colleges in less secure zones?” questioned a student representative addressing the media. She underscored that schools and colleges should serve as sanctuaries for students, free from the fear of violence and disruption.
Protesters demanded that the government take swift, decisive steps to apprehend those responsible and prevent similar incidents in the future. Emphasizing the need for “safe havens” in educational spaces, the students urged authorities to protect them from the threat of violence and potential conflict.
In response, law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation to uncover the motives behind the grenade placement and identify the culprits involved. The incident has reignited a statewide discussion on the need for improved security protocols in educational settings, with students, faculty, and parents advocating for reinforced measures to ensure the safety of young people pursuing their education.
