Imphal: A hand grenade was discovered early Monday at the entrance of GP Women’s College in Imphal, located within a hundred meters of the Raj Bhavan, leading to heightened security and alarm among locals.
Passersby alerted police to the presence of the explosive, which immediately prompted authorities to cordon off the area and initiate efforts to safely remove the device, according to a police official on the scene.
The incident has stirred unease given the college’s proximity to several high-security sites, including Raj Bhavan, the chief minister’s official residence, and Manipur Police headquarters.
The discovery comes at a tense time, as multiple educational institutions across the Imphal Valley have recently reported receiving extortion threats, adding to concerns over security in the area.
