Manipur Groups to Convene Public Meeting on Conflict Anniversary

Imphal: Imphal will be the site of a significant public convention on May 3rd, organised by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI). The gathering is scheduled to commence at 11:30 am at Khuman Lampak, coinciding with the two-year mark since the eruption of the conflict that has gripped Manipur.

The impetus for this convention stems from COCOMI’s deep dissatisfaction with the Indian government’s handling of the protracted crisis. Convenor Khuraijam Athouba voiced this sentiment during a press briefing held at the organisation’s headquarters. He highlighted the lack of a resolution despite the conflict’s extended duration, underscoring the urgency for decisive action.

The primary objective of the upcoming convention is to formulate and adopt crucial resolutions that COCOMI believes hold the key to bringing an end to the persistent unrest in the state. Mr. Athouba elaborated that the event will serve as a platform, uniting scholars, prominent community leaders, and various civil society organisations. Their collective deliberations will focus on critical issues, with the resulting resolutions slated for presentation to the Government of India.

In a strong appeal for widespread participation, COCOMI has urged all citizens to temporarily halt their routine activities on May 3rd to ensure their presence at this pivotal convention. Over the preceding month, the organisation has actively engaged with diverse segments of society, conducting discussions aimed at identifying viable pathways towards resolving the ongoing conflict. As the anniversary of the May 3rd incident, which ignited the prolonged strife, draws near, all necessary arrangements for the convention have been finalised.
