Manipur HC to Hear Plea on Kwatha Village Crisis After 7 Months of Communal Violence

Northeast Desk, 21th December: The Manipur High Court is addressing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning a humanitarian crisis in Kwatha village in the Tengnoupal district, attributed to the state-wide violence that has been ongoing for seven months.

The PIL, filed by Kongjengbam Chingkham, highlights the hardships faced by the 370 residents of Kwatha due to communal strife, affecting their ability to sell products or leave the village. The tensions between the Meiteis and the Kukis started on May 3, 2023.

The Court is scheduled to hear the PIL on January 24, 2024. Kwatha village is situated near the Indian-Myanmar border, facing isolation and challenges amid the ongoing conflict.
